November Wine Club

Winter’s Approach

We were lucky enough to do a tasting of Louis/Dressner wines, an importer we admire, who focuses on the world of natural wines, from winemakers who work with organic grapes, biodynamic processes, and play with techniques like natural fermentations, low intervention, and unfiltered wines. From this tasting, we found these two red wines, and couldn’t wait to share them with our wine club. We felt they brought dark, winter-warming wealth with a balance of bright, playful naturalness- perfect for celebrations, feasts, or simply sitting by the wood stove on a November evening.

Chat Fou, Côtes-du-Rhône Rouge, Eric Texier

The label alone would’ve been enough for Liv to want this wine for Fox, but then the wine was everything they wanted it to be. As playful and unpredictable as any good cat should be, this very natural, French red is a blend of Cinsault and Grenache, with a touch of a white varietal blend, including Viognier. The meeting of all of these grapes makes for something completely unique, with a great, rich body from the Grenache and Viognier, and the earthy feeling of dry stone on the tongue. It is electrically acidic, with a surprising berry note that makes this ambitious, unique wine drink like juice. Try it alongside thick, French-style pot roasts, triple cream cheeses, or a thick, sweet potato soup.

Viola Rosso, Lambrusco Salamino, Vigneto Saetti

Doni had been waiting on pins and needles for this Lambrusco to come back in stock this year, and when it arrived, they couldn’t wait to show it off to all of our wine club members. This wine is ruby red, sparkling, and smells like a field of wild violets and crushed raspberries. The grapes are hand picked, and fermented to perfect dryness in stainless steel for maximum freshness. Try pairing this wine with a cheeseboard full of options from the Emilia-Romagna region- Parma ham, parmigiano reggiano, and strawberries drizzled with balsamic vinegar. But this thick, rich wine would also make an amazing companion to turkey or duck, if you happen to be planning a feast featuring those foods this month.
